Herbert Dellinger
June 18, 1931 – June 24, 2022

Herbert Dellinger, the much-loved teacher, basketball coach and friend to so many from the Sanville area of Bassett, passed away on June 24, 2022. He was 91 years old. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years Doris Evelyn Dellinger and son Herbert Dellinger, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Sheree R. Martin, her husband Dr. Sanford Martin and daughter-in-law Julie Dellinger. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Ryan Harris, Jacob Dellinger, Sarah Martin, Hogan Dellinger and Daniel Martin. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Steven Harris, Luke Dellinger, Isaac Dellinger, Phebe Dellinger, Piper Dellinger, Elianna Martin and Tatiyana Martin.
Herbert was a loved and respected teacher and basketball coach primarily at Sanville Elementary Schools for 31 years. He had a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Virginia. Prior to completing his college degree he was a veteran of the United States Navy. He and his wife were long-time members of Pleasant View Baptist Church. At Pleasant View Baptist Church he loved singing in the choir, playing guitar and harmonica and teaching Sunday School. For many years he also played guitar and sang hymns for residents in a local nursing home.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 4432 Pleasant View Drive, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Henry Memorial Park, Bassett, Virginia.
