

Jacob Rodney Shively, 74, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Franklin County on January 25, 1937 to George Cabel Shively and Donnie F. Bowling Shively, both deceased. He was a graduate of Bassett High School, served in the Army as a medic and retired from DuPont after 32 years of service. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda S. and Dave Purvis of Martinsville and Debra S. and Hal Troller of Rocky Mount; one son and daughter-in-law, Darryl R. and Elizabeth Shively of Henry; one sister, Gloria S. Compton of Collinsville; two brothers, Paul Donald Shively and Denver C. Shively, both of Bassett; five grandsons, Jeremy Shively and wife, Renee, Joseph Purvis, Jacob Purvis, D. J. Shively and Kaleb Shively; one great-granddaughter, Sophie Purvis and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett with the Rev. Keith Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Rocky Mount.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett and other times at the home of Rhonda and Dave Purvis, 230 Westbrook Lane, Martinsville (Figsboro Community).
