

James Curtis “Curt” Johnson, of Bassett, died Wednesday October 26, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born in Bassett on August 21, to the late Sam W. Johnson and Amy Lovell Johnson. He was a graduate of Bassett High School and attended UVA Darden School of Business, He served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne and was retired as a career furniture executive. He was a member of the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA where he formerly served on the Board of Directors. He also was a member and deacon at Fort Trial Christian Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, E. "Scotty" Johnson, one sister, Texas Padgett and two brothers, Frank E. Johnson and S. Elton Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Butcher “Sandy” Johnson of the home, six sisters, Marie Gardner of Collinsville, Bertha Burge of Winston Salem, NC, Geneva Turner and Estelle Davis both of Martinsville, Inell Fox of Collinsville and Ruth Masters of Bassett, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 at Roselawn Burial Park with Pastor Wesley McCarter officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
