James (Jim) T. Roberts was born in Patrick County, VA and lived in Hardy,VA. Jim was a carpenter for most of his life. He enjoyed working with his hands as did his father and grandfather. Much of Jim's work can be seen around Smith Mountain Lake and Roanoke, VA . He loved his life at Smith Mountain Lake and NASCAR.
Jim never met a stranger and had a love for people and animals. He had been battling cancer for several years. Jim was a loving son, brother, father,,uncle and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
James (Jim) Terry Roberts was the son of the late Addie Mae Plaster DeRoin and the late Walter Ernest Roberts. His deceased grandparents, James and Charline Goard Plaster, were a very important part of his life. His step-mother is Betty M. Roberts of Roanoke, VA. Jim is also leaving behind a very good friend and companion, Linda Young of Hardy, VA.
Surviving are three sisters Amaryllis R Weatherington and husband Don of High Point, NC, Sharon R. Lindley of AZ, Tonja R. Cochran and husband Preston of Salem, VA.
Jim's children are Chad Hankenson and wife Amy of SC, Jennifer Roberts of NE, Jimmy Roberts of PA.and two grandchildren. His nephews and nieces are Ginger Altman of AZ, Sammy Altman of VA, Daniel and Grant Weatherington of NC, Kalei Cochran of VA, Teagan and Addie Weatherington of NC,

Jennifer Roberts also has two children. Jim had more than two grandchildren. I really wish my father’s family knew me and my family.
My two children’s names are Carter and Aidan. My father loved me and my children. We didn’t get to know him until late in life, but he died knowing me and my family deeply.

James "Jim" Terry Roberts passed away suddenly on January 10, 2021, at his home from complications of cancer. At the time of passing he was 64 years of age. Jim is survived by his estranged wife of 41 years, Neilla Roberts, his son Chad Hankinson (43) and family, and his daughter Jennifer Roberts (42) and family.
Jim loved vacationing in the Philippines. His favorite past times were fishing and listening to music.
Jim made a lot of mistakes in his lifetime, and had many regrets, but had finally turned into the man that he, and his family, always wanted.
He will be missed by whose lives he has touched. . .
