Jerry K Raines

Jerry K. Raines, 70 of Bassett, VA., went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home at the Harmony Hall in Bassett, VA. He was born on March 29, 1948 in Haysi, VA. to Fred C. Raines and Vandora Rider Raines. Jerry is survived by four sisters, Jennifer Killen , Patricia Mullins (Johnny), all of Bassett, VA., Marsha Turpin (Joe) of Wythville, VA., Susan Bridges (Mike) of Meadows of Dan, VA. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Raines Meade. Jerry graduated from Clintwood High School in 1967 where he excelled in gymnastics and was voted Prom King his Senior year. He also attended a Wise, VA. Drafting Trade School for one year. He became an exceptional guitarist, winning many first place ribbons in various Bluegrass Festivals. Jerry joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1972. He served two years in Vietnam and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1*, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. After his tour of service, Jerry worked at Bassett Superior Lines. Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping, playing the guitar and singing. He last resided at Harmony Hall in Bassett, VA. where he made many friends. Jerry was a kind, generous, and loving soul and he will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Collins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park with Military Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
