God in his Omniscient Wisdom called his son, John Edward Lampkin home on Friday, March 19, 2021. John, "Sonny Boy", aka "Red" as he was known was the eldest son of the late John and Clara Mae Lampkins. John was born October 20, 1941 in Axton, VA. He completed his high school education in Virginia and then relocated to Cleveland Ohio in the early 60's. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Lampkins.

John was united in marriage to Precious Kimberly Bennett on May 28, 2005. John joined Greater Refuge Temple Center of Deliverance Church in 2007, under the leadership of the late Bishop Albert Hairston. He was a dedicated servant in the church - a member of the Men's Choir, he served as an Usher and was a Deacon. He was loved by his church family as well as everyone that he came in contact with. He had a very friendly, sociable, and engaging personality, you could say that John never met a stranger. Coming from a large family, he knew how to treat people and make them feel comfortable. He embodied his name Sonny Boy for he was truly sunny. He was known for the love of his cars and especially enjoyed competing in Classic Car shows with his 1978 Red Chevy Corvette.

Upon relocation to Cleveland, John held numerous jobs until he found a "home" in the construction industry and was a long-standing member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. John worked for Horvitz Construction, Trinidad Construction and finally Allega Construction, where he retired after 42 years of service. He was a skilled tradesman and an expert in the operation of heavy construction equipment. At one point, John was the only person that was allowed to operate a very expensive and difficult piece of excavation equipment. He helped to train and supervise many team members during his career.

John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 15 years, Precious Kimberly of the home. His children, April of Arkansas, Darwin, Earl (Marcia), Carmen, and Eric of Cleveland OH; his brothers Bobby (Robin), Levy Scott (Jennifer), and Larry of Cleveland, OH; Calvin (Deborah), Christopher (Julia) of Martinsville, VA. His sisters, Althea French (Jack), and Thelma Locklear of Cleveland OH. His sister-n-laws Leslie Hodge-Mansur (Muhammad) of Cleveland, OH and Molly Ann Lampkins of Martinsville, VA. Great grand and grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

A Floating visitation will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, Virginia.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Greater Refuge Temple Center of Deliverance Church, 718 Stoney Mountain Road, Martinsville, Virginia with Elder Percy L. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Sonny Boy “Dover Jr” I ‘m going to miss seeing you walking up our driveway. I’d just watch in aw at how much you resembled Daddy, The way you walked and everything about you. Gonna miss you checking in on us and trying to get you to let me drive the corvette. You, Daddy and Let are together again in heaven. No more sickness or suffering. Kiss Daddy and Toot for me and keep watching over us. Don’t forget to send us an occasional wink. Get some rest Sonny and remember I Love you “Dover Jr.

This is so hard to believe and to take in, but I know my heart will heal in time. I keep telling everyone how special you are to me. You have been a father to me and you treated me like your own. Who knew that when we spoke during the holidays, it would be our last call. I will always be grateful for who you have been in my life, not just the things you did for me. You took care of my mom and you made sure I didn't go without while I was in college and you made sure my wedding was great! I'll never forget our talks and your hugs and kisses. You are truly the best Poppa and I will miss you desperately!! Rest well my love and keep smiling!!!
