John William Moran

John “Johnny” William Moran, 89, of Bassett, VA, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016. He was born on April 4, 1927 in Patrick County, VA to the late Volney Dolphus Moran and Virginia DeHart Moran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Moran Semones; six sisters and two brothers.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie Fulcher Moran of the home; son, Kenny Moran and wife, Robin of Ridgeway, VA; daughter, Rhonda Moran Morris and her husband, Neal of Ridgeway, VA; grandchildren, Zachary Morris and his wife, Autumn, John Cullen Moran, and Logan Valderrama and her husband, Alberto.

Mr. Moran was a US Navy veteran who served in WWII. He was an active member of Fort Trial Christian Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Elder and Deacon. He loved bluegrass music and played in the band, Johnny Moran & the Country Hillbillies. He was also a member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Fort Trial Christian Church in Bassett, VA with Ministers Milford Witt and Dave Cuthbertson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Fort Trial Christian Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, VA.
