Obituary of Lena Martin Scott
Lena Martin Scott of Collinsville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2013. At the age of 94, she was born in Endicott on January 21, 1919 to the late Cam Charles and Johanna Daisy Thompson Martin. She worked briefly at DuPont and retired from Martin Processing. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lacy B. Scott, brothers, Cam, Buford and Hoover Martin and sisters, Mattie Clyde Thompson and Lola Martin. She will rejoin her special four legged companion, Daisy. She is survived by a daughter Dana Bryant of Huddleston and a son, Randy Scott of Collinsville. Left to cherish her memories are two grandchildren: Kristin Dillon of Eden and John Flanagan of Bassett. Three great grandchildren, Ava, Izaak and Lacey, have lost a mentor. Surviving siblings are three sisters, Nola Fulcher, Willie Scott, and Mary Lou Robertson and a brother, Bruce Martin. Numerous nieces and nephews are etched in her heart and one in particular, Marie Carr, gave of her time and energy to all of her aunts. She will miss many special friends and coworkers including Linda Jackson, Eva Nolen, Gloria Gaylor and Carl & Clydie Gunter. She cherishes her many friends at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a devoted member. Lena was an avid gardener specializing in peonies, irises and strawberries. She could snap half runners quicker than she could bake her specialty pound cake and could catch a tree leaf before it hit the ground. She was known as a walker on the streets of Collinsville. She was blessed with good health and her life was full of many things but grandchildren and great grandchildren were a top priority in her heart. All of us were blessed to have known her as a mother / grandmother / sister / aunt “A mother’s heart… a mother’s faith and a mother’s steadfast love Were fashioned by the angels And sent from God above Everyday is a time to honor you, Mother. It is a time to let you know How much it means to us To have a mother who’s So strong in her convictions so committed in her faith and so very generous in her heart For all you give For the wonderful woman you are Thank you for being such a loving presence in our lives…” Come for an informal celebration and memorial service to be held Wednesday June 19, 2013 evening at 7:00 pm with visitation starting at 5:30 pm at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett. . The Honorable Lawrence Harris will officiate.
