Mary Louise Marceau

Mary Louise Marceau, 86, of Salem, VA passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Mary was born on October 12, 1932 in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of the late Arnold James Windle and Elvina Kurtzweil Windle. Mary attended Illinois schools and graduated from Evanston Township High School and began working as a legal secretary. She served in the US Navy (1950-1954) as a Court Martial Reporter at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, where she met and married Ronald Allen Marceau, who was attending electronics school. His duty station was the USS Tusk submarine at New London, CT. Ron and Mary raised two sons in Poughkeepsie, NY, where Mary worked as a legal secretary when not being “mom at home” and Ron was employed by IBM. The family was active in Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church, where Mary served in various capacities and Ron was a deacon, elder, and scout leader. The family moved to Cary, NC in 1978 with a transfer for Ron from IBM. Mary was also employed by IBM in NC in an administrative capacity before retiring in 1994. Thereafter, her volunteer work included Western Wake Medical Center, Wake County Community Schools, Habitat for Humanity, and various committees at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary where she was a member. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, who died in 1980, and her brother James Windle. She is survived by son Daren E. Marceau and Elaine Estes of Cary; son Gary Allen Marceau and Linda Marceau of Roanoke, VA; granddaughters Meredith Blum and husband Greg of Raleigh, NC; Mackenzie Marceau and fiancé Matt Church of Raleigh, NC; grandsons Bryan Allen Marceau and Porter Riley Marceau of Roanoke, VA; great-granddaughters Adalyn and Emery Blum of Raleigh, NC; sister Carol Smilor of Thousand Oaks, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held at the Apex Cemetery where Mary will be interred next to her husband, Ronald. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for children’s education at the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, 200 High Meadow Drive, Cary, NC 27511.
