Ralph Edward Wood

Born in Franklin County on August 9, 1939, he was a son of the late Guy Otis Wood and Lena Pendleton Wood Smallwood. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 32 years, JoAnn Weaver Wood, and five brothers, Frank, Russell, Otis, Guy and John Wood.

Ralph retired as a foreman with Bassett Furniture Industries with over forty years of service.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Wood Barnes and Tammy Wood, both of Bassett, two sisters, Bessie Bowers of Woolwine and Betty Dooley of Florida, three grandchildren, Morgan Wood, Magen Barnes, and Haley Barnes, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, % Martinsville Area Community Foundation, P. O. Box 1124, Martinsville, VA, 24114. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 P.M. prior to the service.
