

Born in Henry County December 30, 1924, he was a son of the late Joshua Thomas Turner and Ida Sue Stone Turner. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Sue Fannon Turner, sisters, Eva Hill, Clara Bryant, and Esther Turner, and brothers, Curtis Turner, Lancaster Turner, and Elmead Turner.
Tommy was a graduate of Bassett High School and attended Bluefield College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of Bassett United Methodist Church where he had served on the Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board, and was a president of the United Methodist Men and church school treasurer; he was also a member of and past Vice President of Bassett Kiwanis Club.
Surviving is his son, Thomas Wade Turner of Charlotte, NC, and two sisters, Lula Fulcher of West End, NC, and Lillie Doyle of Martinsville.
The funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, March 25, 2011, in Bassett United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dorian Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military rites provided by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett.
