Verna Martin Smith, 88, of Bassett, died Monday January 6, 2013 at Martinsville Memorial Hospital. She was born in Patrick County on February 22, 1925 to the late Benjamin H. Martin and Mattie Susan Craig Martin. She was the owner of operator of Verna’s Beauty Shop for more than twenty five years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Smith, two brothers, Arthur Benjamin Martin and Elmore Martin.
Surviving are two sisters, Velma M. Holt and Ethel M. Adkins both of Collinsville and two brothers, Ervin Martin of Collinsville and Marvin Martin of Martinsville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Bassett Church of The Brethren with Minister Gary Edwards and Minister Clyde Hylton officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hermon Church of The Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in the Collins Funeral Home Chapel in Bassett.
