

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruby and her brother, George Earl Menefee, Jr.
Mahala attended Lamar High School in Houston and went on to graduate from Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX. She started her career as an elementary school teacher in Houston ISD and eventually became certified as a remedial reading teacher and worked in a resource center for the district. After retirement she moved to Bastrop, TX with her husband, Charles Rowley. There she became very active in the First United Methodist Church and in her community.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Charles Nelson Rowley, Jr., her daughters, Barbara Yancy Hautanen and her husband, Dean from Ft. Worth, Susan Amelia Rowley and husband Alexander Weiss from Evanston, ILL, Kathryn Patricia Bess from Houston , TX, and Debra Lynn Rowley and husband, James Dockery from Lake Stevens, WA. She was loved and will be missed by 4 granddaughters, 2 grandsons-in-law, and 3 great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 25th 2012 at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, September 26th 2012 in the First United Methodist Church, Bastrop, TX.
