Maurie was born to Don and Jarrice on January 22, 1962 in the small town of Jourdanton, Texas. Maurie was raised in Pleasanton, Texas with her sister and brothers. Maurie loved being with her family and spending time outdoors and hanging by the lake. Maurie met her soul mate, David at Austin Dance Hall. Maurie and David were married on February 28, 1981. They made their home and raised their three daughters in Bastrop, Texas.
Maurie was a very loving woman and touched many lives during her lifetime. Maurie had a special place in her heart for children. As she raised her own children, she was consistently helping others. She was always seen at the schools and all her daughter’s events. Her home was the place many called their home away from home. Each child that she met was touched in some way. She not only showed love, compassion and respect, but showed them the hard lessons as well. Maurie was the rock that so many leaned on.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home located at 505 Old Austin Highway, Bastrop, Texas. There will be a period of socialization and viewing starting at 10:00am with the actual service starting at 11:00am.
After the services, the family asks all who loved her to come share memories and laughter with them at the American Legion located at 145 American Legion Road in Smithville, Texas. Lunch will be provided but any side dishes, vegetables, or desserts will be greatly appreciated. They look forward to having you join them in the celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in her name to the Bastrop Education Foundation.
