
Alan Dale Covington, originally from Calhoun County, Miss., and a decorated Vietnam veteran, died at his residence in Baton Rouge of a massive heart attack Tuesday, July 6, 2010. He was 63. Visitation on Saturday, July 10, from noon until religious service at 2 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home chapel, 11000 Florida Blvd., with the Rev. Ron Turner officiating. Private interment will be in the Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary. Survivors include his wife, Betty Covington; and son, Jeffrey Covington, of Baton Rouge; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Donald Covington, of Georgia, Russell Dean Covington and wife Lenita, and Gary Lenn Covington and wife Kathleen, of Mississippi; nieces, Lori Kent, of Alabama, and Dana Gard, of Georgia; and nephew, Tim Covington, of Mississippi; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins residing in Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Covington and mother Grace Roberts. He was an active member of the VFW and served his country with bravery and honor. He was awarded the National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign and Army Commendation medals, Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Jones, Huey Jones, Taylor Giroir, Leonard Desselle, Connor Wood, Mike Covington, Andy Gascon, Terry Marcotte and Jim Ingalls.
