Alan J Ostrowe

Born in New York on September 11, 1940, Alan earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. During the Vietnam War, he served as a physician in the United States Navy and was stationed in New Orleans. His military service brought him to Louisiana, which would remain his home for the rest of his life.

Alan practiced anesthesiology in Baton Rouge for more than fifty years and was an early leader in the development of regional anesthesia and hyperbaric medicine in Louisiana. He later established a successful interventional pain management practice and remained dedicated to patient care throughout his career. He was respected by colleagues and patients alike for his skill, judgment, and commitment to responsible medicine.

Outside of his medical career, Alan was an avid scuba diver and a published underwater photographer. Curaçao was his favorite place in the world, and he returned there often to enjoy its waters and the found-family he made there. He loved his dogs, spending time with his people, James Bond, and ice cream.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patrice Ostrowe; his sons, David Ostrowe (Camilla Ostrowe), Adam Ostrowe (Mary Ostrowe), and AJ Ostrowe (Macie Frugé); and his grandchildren, Isabella, Quinlan, Josephine, and Jack.
