Al Langlois, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died at home May 5, 2014. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Al graduated from Istrouma High School in 1946, where he played football and ran track. Al attended LSU on a track scholarship under coach Joules Roux. Although he enjoyed campus life and running for the Tigers, he left after one year because he could not pass up the opportunity to work for Standard Oil. Al's career in the car business began in the early 1960's with a service station/used car lot (Al&Bert's Used Cars) on Scenic Highway. He co-owned Baker Motors (Jeep) and Boudreaux-Langlois Chrysler Plymouth dealerships in Clinton and Slaughter. Al later joined A.K. Durnin Chrysler-Plymouth in Baton Rouge and worked as sales manager until he retired at 62. Al was a member of St. Louis King of France Church and Knights of Columbus. In 1949, Al married his sweetheart, Betty Noland, and they adored each other during their sixty-three-year marriage. Betty and Al enjoyed life to the fullest and went dancing almost every Saturday night. They had numerous family gatherings at their home on Charles Street and later on Monterrey Boulevard, most notably epic Christmas Eve parties. Betty and Al spent many fun weekends, with many late nights, at False River and during summer vacations at the beach. They met with Istrouma friends regularly for class reunions. In 2009, Betty and Al celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on a cruise surrounded by their children and grandchildren. The oldest surviving son of ten children, Al was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Ramsey and Mary Louise (Pinsonat); brothers, Tom, Douglas, Joseph (CoCo), and son-in-law, Danny Brooks. Al is survived by his siblings, Nancy, Mackie, Jimmy, Mary Louise (Lulu), Jeannette, and Barry; his five children, Keith (Mary), Kim Brooks, Kara Sumerlin (Freddie), Kevin and Kyle; brother-in-law, Dr. Ronald Noland of Mobile; special friends, Buddy Moore, Carol Beaucoudray and Dawn Bergeron; his nine grandchildren, Danielle Brooks Coats (Sandy), Gabe Brooks (Jess O'Neil), Lucas Langlois (Jen), Jordy Langlois (Casey), Sadie Sumerlin Stewart (Brian), Addie Sumerlin Torres (Jesse), Katie Sumerlin Arbuthnot (Thomas), Kameron Langlois and Katherine Langlois; and his twelve great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Brooks, Sumerlin Grace, Julia, William, Wrigley, Joseph, Walker, Riley, Jackson and Weslie. Al Langlois was larger than life, had a quick wit, and always had a joke or a funny story to tell. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, from 5-9pm Thursday and from 9 - 10am Friday at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church.
