
He was a retired U.S. Army Air Forces master sergeant, having served during World War II, and seeing extensive battle in the European Theater. He received several battle stars, including the Bronze Star Medal, but was most proud of his Infantryman Badge. Albert was a native of Mount Hermon and a resident of Baton Rouge. He died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Sherwood Manor Nursing Home at age 89. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Kentwood. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Friday, May 7, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at Crain Funeral Home of Franklinton Saturday, May 8, from noon until the religious service in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Hermon Cemetery. He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Ken Hemphill, Liz and Tommy Smith, and Pat and Richard Maples; two sons, Richard Maples and wife Pat, and Randy Maples and wife Barbara; 11 grandchildren, Tommy and Chris Berthelot, Tammy Fabre, Randy and Johnny Maples, Marli Magnet, Meredith Blasé, Margaret Hall, John Paul Fairhead, and Micah and Mia Maples; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Miller Maples; parents, John Q. and Leona Watson Maples; and brother, Alton Maples.
