
A devoted and loving father and husband, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Louisiana War Veteran's Retirement Home after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Alfred retired as a hydrologist from the U.S. Geological Survey, where he was employed for 33 years. He came out of retirement and served in hydrology for the Department of Public Works for seven years. Alfred Lowe served as a U.S. Marine during World War II. While fighting for his country, he was seriously wounded at theIwo Jimabattle. For his bravery and valor in combat, he later received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Catherine Meo Lowe, and their four children, Kenneth Alfred Lowe and his wife, Brenda, Deborah Lowe Jones and her husband, Darrell, Steven Lowe, and Diane Lowe McKernan and her husband, Jerry. Also survived by five grandchildren, Nevin Bretz, Darin Jones, Mandy Westberry, Diandra Lowe and Kendra Lowe; and great-granddaughter, Arianna Bretz. Pallbearers will be Jerry McKernan, Darrell Jones, Jerry Price, Nevin Bretz, Darin Jones and Gordon McKernan. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, May 4, from 9:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., on Friday at noon. Following the Mass, Alfred Lowe will be laid to rest atResthavenGardensof Memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Alzheimer's Services of Baton Rouge or a charity of the donor's choice.
