Alice Fassitt Jupiter, A Retired Teacher And Guidance Counselor With The New Orleans Public School System For Forty-Five Years, Died Peacefully At Home in Baton Rouge, LA Saturday November 24, 2012. The Cause Was Congestive Heart Failure. She Was 93. A Life Long Resident Of New Orleans Before Relocating To Baton Rouge Following Hurricane Katrina She Was The Wife Of The Late Eugene Clyde Jupiter Who Predeceased Her In 1994. They Were Married For 40 Years. A Graduate Of McDonogh No.35 High School Mrs. Jupiter Received Her Bachelor of Science Degree From Xavier University Of New Orleans In 1941. In November 2011 She Attended Her 70th College Reunion At Xavier. She Held A Masters Degree In Home Economics And Nutrition From New York University And Completed Additional Graduate Studies For Certification As A Louisiana School Counselor. She Was A Daughter of the late George Carroll Fassitt And The Late Adele Nelson Fassitt Who In 1916 Were Among The Founding Families Of Holy Ghost Catholic Church And School In New Orleans. After Retiring From The New Orleans Public School System, She Was Recruited To Serve On And Ultimately Elected President Of The Advisory Board Of The New Orleans Adolescent Hospital, Then A Mental Health Facility For Youngsters Stigmatized By Mental Illness And Substance Use Disorders. For Four Decades, She Was A Lector At Holy Ghost Catholic Church And Continued In That Role At St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church In Baton Rouge Until 2011. Survivors Include Two Sisters, Yvonne Fassitt Thomas And Grace Fassitt Oliver; Eleven Nieces And Nephews: Virgil Demery, Alice Travis, Charlene Wilson, Sharon Buggage, Adele Hubbard, Deborah Marquez, Trina Wilson, George Fassitt, Emmett Oliver Jr., Derek Thomas, Rodney Thomas III; And A Surrogate Grandson Alexander Maugeri. A Mass of Christian Burial Will Be Celebrated On Monday December 10, 2012, 10 A.M. At Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge. Celebrant Is Reverend Trey Nelson , Pastor of St. Jude Church. Visitation Will Begin At 9 A.M. Interment Will Follow at 2 P.M., Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue New Orleans. Rite Of Burial Will Be Led By Reverend John Cisewski, Pastor Of St. Katharine Drexel, Formerly Holy Ghost Church. Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge Is In Charge Of The Arrangements.
