
A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he died peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, April 26, 2007. He was 69. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, April 30, from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m.and after 8 a.m.Tuesday, May 1. Religious service at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m.Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Jim Gross. Entombment inGreenoaksMemorial ParkMausoleum. Allen is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Tootie Gentile Alonzo; three stepchildren, Kathi Lasseigne Austin of Mandeville, and Karen Lasseigne Blanche and Kevin Joseph Lasseigne, both of Baton Rouge; and four stepgrandchildren, Denis Ward "D.J." Barry Jr. and Blair Virginia Barry, both of Mandeville, Elizabeth Sterling Blanche ofJackson, Miss., and Allison Lauren Blanche of Baton Rouge. Allen was a devoted son to his parents, Mildred Davis Alonzo and Tony Alonzo, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wayne Alonzo. Pallbearers will be his cousins, Barry, Gary, Robin and Jay Dennis Alonzo, Darron Sanchez and Michael Patureau. Allen was a graduate ofIstroumaHigh School, class of 1955, and LSU. He taught at Villa del Rey Elementary and Delmont Elementary upon his return from military service. He became principal of Zachary Elementary in 1968, principal at Bernard Terrace and was the first principal and founder of Parkview Elementary. After retirement, he became principal at La Belle Aire,HowellParkand Cedarcrest elementary schools. He also served as desegregation coordinating supervisor for more than five years. Allen worked on many educational projects with the Louisiana State Department of Education. He was affiliated with professional teacher and principal associations, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Phi Kappa and was a board member of the Battered Women's Association of Baton Rouge. His family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rougeand all who gave such loving care. Allen was loved and highly respected and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
