
Alvin H. Norton died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2007. He was 85 and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. Alvin was retired from Plumbers&Steamfitters Local 198 and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Eighth Air Force, stationed in England. He was an inactive member of St. James Masonic lodge and Order of the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Norton; and two daughters, JoEllen Norton Lundin, of Baton Rouge, and Allyson Norton Browning and husband Lynn R. Browning, of Kennesaw, Ga. He leaves behind six loving grandchildren, Kristen, Katelyn and John Lundin, Amanda and Matthew Browning and Alaina Browning Pugh and husband Lee Pugh; and a great-grandson, Brice William Pugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward W. Norton Sr. and Janie Thatch Norton; two sisters and their husbands, Dorris Norton Holdeman and Jonas T. Holdeman and Hilda Norton Lee and Gallent Lee; two brothers and their wives, Edward W. Norton Jr. and Verna M. Norton and Lawrence T. Norton and Marguerite Norton; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to those who attended to Alvin's needs, especially Norma Baker and Gail Sylve of Regional Hospice Services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Crossway Outreach Ministry, 2924 Galt Place N.W., Kennesaw, GA 30144. Crossway Outreach Ministry is a nonprofit, Christ-centered, biblically based ministry offering help and counseling to all walks of life. According to Alvin's wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of life service at Roselawn Mausoleum will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will be at the Norton residence following the service.
