Amanda Creech Calvaruso, 87, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, after a hard-fought 9-year battle with cancer. Born in London, KY on April 16, 1939, to the late Joseph and Bessie Whitt Creech, she moved to Baton Rouge in 1961 and married Vernon Calvaruo on April 18, 1963. Amanda gracefully raised her two boys, Bernie and Michael, and her grandson, Patrick, from the age of 3.
She was heavily involved with the Cub Scouts and a host of all the sports endeavors associated with all her boys. She was a very regal matriarch to her family, being supportive and loyal throughout her entire life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will carry on with them.
Amanda is survived by her two sons, Bernie Calvaruso, and Michael Calvaruso (Stacy); grandchildren, Joey (Rachel), Patrick, and Kristi (Leah); great-grandchildren, Bennett, Circi, Adalynn, and Fox; three brothers, Alburn Creech, Homer Creech, and Carl Ray Creech; five sisters, Mary Wiggins, Lily Mae Gaines, Georgia Howard, Wanda Sue Fultz, and Shirley Ann Holcomb; and her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Shirley Lilly. She also leaves behind two fur babies, her cat, Rex, and her favorite dog, Calvin (AKA “Fat Cal”) who was comforting her when she passed away.
She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Vernon Calvaruso, Sr.; brother, Melvin, sister, Rita June; and her grandson, Matthew.
A private graveside service was held at Greenoaks Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. The family would like to thank Ashley LeBlanc for the last six years of caring for their mother, whom she adored and thought of as a daughter. The family would also like to thank Clarity Hospice for keeping their mom comfortable and giving her a graceful and peaceful home going. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clarity Hospice in her memory. Please visit www.greenoaksfunerals.com to leave condolences to her family.
