A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend Andrew “Andy” J. Sceroler, Jr passed away at Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Reserve, LA on Thursday January 30, 2014. He went to be with his brother Ronnie and parents. He was 79 years old and a resident of Baton Rouge. Andy was a graduate of Catholic High School class of 1953. He entered the Marine Corp and served proudly for 5 ½ years. He was stationed in Japan and appeared in several television spots representing the Marine Corp. After returning to Baton Rouge he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Polito. For many years he and Mary Ann owned and operated Sceroler’s Restaurant in Fluker, LA located in Tangipahoa Parish. Andy always prided himself on being able to remember people’s names. He said that your name was your proudest possession. After being away from Baton Rouge for 22 years he returned and rekindled his old friendships with his Catholic High School “brothers”. They enjoyed many good times at the social events. Andy retired with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office after 15 years of dedicated service. He also enjoyed gardening and golfing. While attending Charlie’s Place, a respite for people with Alzheimer’s, Andy would plant flowers and care for them. He liked to help out Ed and enjoyed his stay there. This illness was very difficult for Andy when he could no longer remember his prayers, read his prayer books, and was unable to attend retreats at Manresa. Andy was so excited about watching his grandchildren play sports, especially basketball and cheer. He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew J. Sceroler Sr and Eunice Bates Sceroler, brother Ronnie J. Sceroler and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Claudine Polito. Andy is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Ann Polito Sceroler and four children Susan and Randy Rogers of Central, LA; Steve and Rhonda Sceroler of Mandeville, LA; Craig and Allison Sceroler of Baton Rouge, LA; and Sheri Sceroler and partner Emily Majer of Tivoli, NY. Brother-in-law Frank Polito and wife Catherine Guidry Polito; six grandchildren, Brent King and partner Linda Jarrell, Bradley Rogers, Sidney, Mallory, Grant, and Grace Sceroler; three great grandchildren, Dillon, Camryn, and Kailey King; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area at 3772 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 9457 Brookline Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809 in memory of Andy. The family would also like to give a special Thank You to Andy’s caregiver, Ms. June Crump, and all the nurses and staff at the Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Reserve, Louisiana. Honorary pallbearers are members of the 1953 Class of Catholic High. Visitation will be held Saturday February 1, 2014 at St Jean Vianney Catholic Church located at 16166 S. Harrells Ferry Rd. in Baton Rouge, LA from 10:30 am until mass of Christian burial at 12:30 pm.
