
A retired physician and resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at his home. He was 91, born March 31, 1916, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Monday, Nov. 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Miles Walsh, celebrant. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by his daughter, Margaret M. Mitchell and her husband, Glen, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Angelo T. Montagnino Jr., and Gordy Montagnino and wife Barbara, all of Baton Rouge; 11 grandchildren, Michelle, John, Christopher, Jami and Jodi Montagnino, Melissa and Greg Mitchell, Angela Garcia, Michael Burns and Glenna Wright; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Haarala Montagnino; a sister, Rose Agnes Montagnino; a brother, Joseph J. Montagnino; and a grandson, Jeff Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Greg Mitchell, Christopher and John Montagnino, William Dodson, Todd Garcia and Francis Rowe. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Terry Rehn, Dr. Maurice Nassar and Dr. Andrew Nelson. He was a graduate of LSU School of Medicine and a member of LSU Medical Alumni Association, American Medical Association, East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American College of Physicians and American College of Surgeons. He was a founder of Women's Hospital, where he was past chief of the medical staff, past president of Sherwood Forest Country Club and member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and the Sertoma Club of Baton Rouge. He was a beloved father and a true LSU fan.
