

In Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jean was born July 20, 1930 in Manchester , England. Her journey in life took her from London, England to Crowley, Louisiana when she married William J Cleveland Jr. Her wit and beauty took the South by storm. They moved to Baton Rouge in 1968 and she lived on Shawn Dr until February 2026. Jean was a voracious reader and a lover of all forms of art and artistic expression. She loved to travel and garden. She was an excellent card player and much sought after bridge partner. Puzzles and mystery's were her forte. Second to her family was her love for animals. She allowed and encouraged her children to bring home any strays. Our home was a menagerie of cats, dogs, bunnies, gerbils, fish, etc. She did put her foot down at snakes!
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Annie Hayes of England. Her husband, William J Cleveland Jr. Her son, William J Cleveland III. Her granddaughter, Christine Cleveland. Her sister, Margaret Lemmon and her brothers Harold and Joseph Hayes. She is survived by her children Steven (Stacy) Cleveland of Walker, Louisiana, Mark (Cindy) Cleveland of Slidell, Louisiana, Margaret (Luis) deAlcuaz of Modesto, California, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.
Our family is extremely grateful to Shun Marshall (our Angel on Earth), Nautyca Clark, the staff at Garden View assisted living and Hospice of Baton Rouge. We cannot thank Shun and Nautyca enough for their dedication and kindness to help mom transition with dignity and grace.
The family will hold a private burial at the Cleveland cemetery in Lena, Louisiana
