Anna Arbour Hanegan of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old. Anna was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1950. She married William B. Hanegan, Jr. on September 6, 1952. The couple moved to New Orleans so Bill could pursue his pharmacy degree at Loyola University. Anna worked for French Market Coffee until they had their first child. The couple welcomed two more children while living in New Orleans then moved back to Baton Rouge upon Bill's graduation. They eventually welcomed seven more children to the family. Anna worked from home raising the couple's ten children and managing the household until the youngest started school. She returned to the workforce and pursued a vocation she knew best, caring for children. She worked for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System as a Teacher's Aide for special education students, first at the Mohican School, then at the Southdowns School. She retired after 25 years of service. Anna was a devout Catholic and for many years participated in perpetual adoration at the St. Alphonsus Adoration Chapel. Once she retired, she also donated time to a St. Vincent de Paul store. The English novelist, Rudyard Kipling wrote "God could not be everywhere, therefore he made mothers." Anna devoted her life to her family and also lived to do God's will. She nurtured her children and showed them the way with an abundance of compassion and prayer. She always placed their needs above her own. She was their strongest advocate and their protector, guiding them through life's many challenges. Anna was a reflection of God's love and an angel to her children. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William B.
