Anne Elizabeth “Liz” Dunaway Alch passed away unexpectedly on September 27, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was 64 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lige Jr. & Dorothy Dunaway, and her father and mother-in-law, Wayne & Mary Anne Alch.
Liz is survived by Brian, her loving husband of 42 years, and their children and spouses, Michael Alch (Danielle Clary Alch), Andrew Alch, and Katherine Alch Roberts (Myles Roberts). She is also survived by her brother, Lige Dunaway III, and her sister, Amy Dunaway Salas. She was “Gran” to five grandchildren – Claire, Natalie, & Elliott Alch and Henry & Thomas Roberts. She also was Aunt Liz to 18 nieces and nephews and a devoted friend to countless others.
A Baton Rouge resident for over 45 years, Liz originally hailed from White Castle, LA. A devout Catholic and member of St. George Parish, Liz received her early education at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in White Castle and later attended Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 1981 and was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, where she established friendships that lasted her lifetime. She would remain a Tiger fan her entire life, and she and Brian could always be found at The Box in left field cheering on the LSU baseball team as longtime season ticket holders.
Throughout her life, Liz was deeply committed to the Baton Rouge community, serving as the legislative assistant to three Baton Rouge Metro Council members until her retirement in May 2022. She was also a staunch supporter of the country’s men and women in uniform as the daughter of a World War II US Navy veteran, the daughter-in-law of a career Army officer, and the mother of an Army officer. Liz was also a remarkable sports mom, always present at her kids' games and meets. Adored by all who knew her, Liz’s favorite pastimes included being with her family – especially her grandchildren – chasing Keith Urban to wherever he might be in concert, and rooting on the Tigers, LA Tech Bulldogs, and Army Black Knights. Her life was dedicated to her family and her Catholic faith; her unconditional love and guidance will forever shape their lives.
Liz’s family will receive guests from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, October 5, 2023, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held afterwards at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church at 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Liz’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
