A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, August 5, 2011 at St. Jude Catholic Church for Annie DeJohn Lorio, 84, who departed peacefully after a lengthy renal illness. Annie, better known as “Mommee”, was a native of Baton Rouge where she lived until she moved to Lafayette, 3 months ago, and resided until the time of her death on August 1, 2011. She was born on February 11, 1927. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1943 and married her high school sweetheart Alvin Lorio, Jr. in 1946. She retired from the Cooperative Extension Service at LSU after 32 years of employment. Annie loved to fish and work in her yard. She and Alvin had a passion for dancing. She cherished the many times spent with her very special friends at dances, on cruises, and on the monthly bus rides to the casinos. Mommee constantly bragged about her grandkids and great grandkids, and thought they all hung the moon. She always smiled and lit up in any baby’s presence. Mommee was a very generous mother & grandmother. To quote our Daddy, “she was a very classy lady. And anything she did for anyone was always first class.” She will really be missed by her family and her many close friends who she also considered as family. Annie is survived by her husband of 64 years Alvin J. Lorio, Jr.; children: Dianne Lorio McNabb and husband Delmon, and Al Lorio, III; grandchildren: Amy Rogers Conque, Mackey McNabb, Annie Rose Lorio, and Abby Lorio, and their mother Amber Day; great grandchildren: Ky, Jacob, and Lindsey Conque; sister-in-law Jeannette DeJohn; and numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Margaret DeJohn; and siblings: Lawrence DeJohn, Louis DeJohn and wife Nu, and Lena Noble and husband Frank. The family requests visitation be observed at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday August 4, 2011 from 5pm until 9pm and St. Jude Catholic Church on Friday August 5, 2011 from 9am until services at 11am. Rev. Michael Collins will be presiding over the services. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. A reception will be held immediately following the burial at Greenoaks Life Celebration Center. Pallbearers will be Mackey McNabb, Louis DeJohn, Jr., Frankie Noble, Delmon McNabb, Wayne Brogdan and Larry DeJohn. The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers, Harriet Mosley, Esther Broussard and Rose Lily for their love and wonderful care of our Mommee, during her illness. And special thanks to her personal hospice nurse jenny for her compassionate care, guidance, and love during these last months. The compassion and prayers extended from the family and friends is very much appreciated, also. Memorial contributions may be made in Annie Lorio’s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
