Anthony “Tony” Corona was born in Baton Rouge, LA on March 20, 1947 and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the age of 77. He was a loving father and very much loved his only child, Christina.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Christina Corona Alamirie (Rober); grandson, Robert Anthony Alamirie; brother, Thomas Corona (Darlene); sister, Diana Thibodeaux; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Corona; his mother, Nona Corona; and brother-in-law, Rodney Thibodeaux.
Tony proudly served his country as a welder in the 169th Engineer Battalion US Army in Vietnam from 1967-1969. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Unfortunately his time in Vietnam caused lifelong illnesses, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, which he courageously battled. Upon returning from Vietnam he worked tirelessly for 40 years as a welder and machinist, retiring from Dresser-Rand. He was a soldier in so many ways.
He had a passion for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He found joy in the laughter with family that surrounded him and the comfort of a warm cup of coffee any time of day. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and growing fruit trees, bird watching, and especially loved hunting and fishing. Tony was quite the cook and loved to eat. He made the best sauce piquante, spaghetti, and fried fish and shrimp that everyone enjoyed.
Tony was a quiet man at times. He had a great sense of humor and often spoke what was on his mind that always made everyone laugh. He also was a procrastinator at heart with his famous words “I don’t have time”! Between his famous naps, nothing was rushed and he always took his time enjoying the simple things in life.
Special thanks to the staff at The Haven, Sunrise at Siegen, and the Hospice Nurses for their compassion, kindness, and support provided throughout the years.
A visitation for Tony will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 9 am to 11 am at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, followed by a funeral service at 11 am.
