Arletta Dornier Averette, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at her home in Baton Rouge, LA. Arletta was a graduate of St. Anthony High School, class of 1955, and of Louisiana State University, class of 1959, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to graduate from Our Lady of the Lake School of Medical Technology in 1960. While at LSU, Arletta was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron, which later formed Alpha Phi Sorority. Arletta was an active member of Our Lady of the Mercy Home and School Association, Bluebird troop leader, Cub Scout den mother, past president of La Sertoma Club of Baton Rouge, past president of the Alpha Phi House Board and president of St. Agnes Altar Society for over 20 years. Through her everyday life, she exemplified what humility, love, kindness, selflessness, and being Christ-like meant. If she knew you, she prayed for you. If she didn't know you, she still prayed for you. Arletta is survived by her children: Robyn Averette Cross and husband Tommy, Tammy Averette Wallis and husband Toby, Richard Averette and wife Cynthia Musso, and Tommy Averette. Her grandchildren: Nicole Cross Jawhari and husband Samer, Lauren Cross Chowaneic and husband Jeff, Lindsey Cross, Trent Wallis and wife Lauren Pratt, Trey Wallis, Tyler Wallis, Sean Averette and wife Isabella Lalla, Sarah Averette, Zachary Averette and Morgan Averette Johns and husband Garrett, and step-granddaughter Jenny Haydel Baker and husband Rocky. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Layla Jawhari, Ryan Jawhari, and step-great-grandchildren: Halle Haydel, Bradie Baker, and Beckham Baker. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Evans House, brother-in-law Herman Averette and wife Kathleen, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, John Ortlieb Averette, infant daughter Arletta Ann Averette, parents Newton Dornier and Rowena Cardone Dornier Morris, sister Deborah, step father Harold R. Morris, sister-in-law Charleen Averette, brother-in-law William House, and step-grandson Garrett Haydel. The greatest gift she gave us was love, and the greatest gift we can give her is to love one another as she did. Many thanks to the caregivers and staff at The Haven.
