A homemaker and a native of Baton Rouge, Ava died on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in Gulf Breeze, Fla., after an extended illness. She was born on May 19, 1925. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Robin Reed; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Michael Bennett, of Gulf Breeze; a daughter, Rachel Reed, of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Natalie, Emily and Melanie Reed and Amanda and Jordan Bennett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Reed; parents, Euberne and Gladys Eckert; and sisters, Jeannette Stacks and Margie Walker. A graduate of Baton Rouge High School and LSU, Ava devoted her life to the service of her family, her friends and her church. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Tuesday, Jan. 20, was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visiting at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from noon until serviceat 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. Graveside services immediately following at Roselawn Cemetery.
