

Aven Vernon Dearman’s faith became sight on March 12, 2022, when entered the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunited with his beloved wife, Marvene Dallas Dearman. Born on Feb. 1, 1929, in Baxterville, Mississippi, to the Rev. Earnest H. and Eva Mae Rouse Dearman, Aven served in the U.S. Air Force, earned his undergraduate degree from LSU, graduated from the FBI Police Academy and Secret Service Police Academy and served a 45-year career with Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Public Service Commission. He was a member of Trinity Union Masonic Lodge No. 372 for more than 50 years, holding several positions with the lodge; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and worked with the Boy Scouts when his son was young. Aven was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving faithfully as a deacon and as a chaperone for youth trips to New Mexico. His trust in Christ was the foundation of his life, and he was a loving father and brother, and an especially proud grandfather. Aven enjoyed fishing, sketching and watercolors. He had a quiet, gentle manner and a sense of humor that made people enjoy his company. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Margaret Dearman, of Baton Rouge; granddaughter, Jamie Dearman, of Baton Rouge; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Maxine Dearman, of Nashville, Tennessee; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Carolyn Evan, of Baton Rouge; Marguerite Burt, of Swartz Creek, Michigan; Betty and Jarvis Porche, of Ethel, Louisiana; Mary Nell Goudeau, of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana; Gerry Dearman, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Linda Dallas, of Clinton, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest Carroll Dearman and Wade William Dearman; and brothers-in-law Cooper Dallas, Raymond Dallas, George Goudeau, Duaine Evans and Buddy Burt. Visitation will be 5-6 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Greenoaks Funeral Home, and from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 19, at First Baptist Church, with a memorial service at noon. Graveside services will be at Greenoaks following the memorial service. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Greenoaks. Pallbearers will be Bill Dearman, Donald Robique, Bruce Pearson, Darrin Pearson, Johnny Powell and Scott Tremer. Allen DeArmond is honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations in Aven’s memory to the library at First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge.
