God called home a special angel on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. At the age of 77, Barbara Webb Thomas Clark, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was reunited with her husband, Bill, in Heaven. Although born in Orange, New Jersey, she grew up in Chatham, New Jersey where she met and married her high school sweetheart. She and Bill shared 55 beautiful years that were filled with love and laughter. Barbara's formative education began at the early age of 10 when she was chosen for admittance into The Juilliard School of Music program for gifted and talented children in New York City. She continued her love of music and playing the piano throughout her life. After graduating from Chatham High School in 1954, she attended Southern Seminary in Virginia earning a degree in business. She and Bill were married in 1957 and moved to Tucson, Arizona where Bill was stationed at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. They returned to New Jersey in the early 60s where she was active with the New Jersey Jaycettes. 1968 found the Clark family transferring to Baton Rouge for Bill's job in the oil and gas field. Barbara quickly embraced the southern lifestyle and fell in love with the Louisiana culture. After her children were in school, Barbara began her professional career by working for a couple of local dentists. She then worked for several years in the marketing department at Community Coffee and was an enthusiastic member of their hot air balloon crew. Her final stop in her career was her true calling - combining her passions for the medical field and marketing - at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in the areas of Elderly Services and Volunteer Services. In 2004, she received the Franciscan Service Award from the Lake and was described as "a life raft on the ocean of life." Most recently, Barbara was an active member of the PEO Chapter E, a professional organization of women she admired greatly. Anyone that knew Barbara was immediately touched by her kindness and dedication to her friends and family. That dedication was most evident in the care of her husband. She was a true and faithful crusader in his recovery from an illness that earned him the nickname "miracle man". Barbara was the driving force in his recovery that enabled his friends and family to have him as a part of their lives for several "bonus" years. Even while battling numerous illnesses herself, Barbara was always at the forefront of caring for her family. She is preceded in death by her husband William Leon Clark, son Stephen Clark, father, Robert Pierce Thomas, mother Cornelia Webb Thomas Pattirson, and step-father John Pattirson. Barbara is survived by daughter Carol Clark Sloan and husband Eric of Jackson, LA; daughter Christine Clark Kennedy and husband Ron of Baton Rouge; grandchildren Connor Sloan and wife Jessica of Zachary, Carley Sloan of Baton Rouge, Landon Sloan and fiancé Brittany Ray of Baton Rouge, and great-grandchildren Addison and Corbin Sloan of Zachary. She also leaves behind brother-in-law Richard Clark and wife Bette of Manchester, New Jersey; sister Rosemari Pattirson Renahan and husband Mike of Florham Park, New Jersey; and brother David Pattirson of Whippany, New Jersey. Rabenhorst Funeral Home East is in charge of the arrangements. A service will be held on Saturday, April 19th at Broadmoor United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Fred Wideman. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm with a memorial service at 1:00 pm. While we feel sadness for our loss, we rejoice in knowing her spirit is free at last.
