Barbara Shaffett Richardson, 93, was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on December 27, 1928. She passed away on July 30, 2022. Barbara was a member of Frances Asbury United Methodist Church, and she was an avid gardener who sent her children to school with bouquets for their teachers. She taught her grandchildren to play checkers, never “letting” them win, as she was a fierce competitor who was unmoved by their tears and tantrums. Barbara and her husband enjoyed cruises and attended many Navy ship reunions across the U.S. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa R. Fike (Ned) of Baton Rouge, and Melanie R. Schooler (Jim) of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Richie Fike (Dana) of Monument, CO, Katie Fike of Baton Rouge, Sarah Schooler Lee (Bryan) of Fort Worth, TX, Christian Schooler of Fort Worth, TX, and Buford Richardson III of Baton Rouge; nephew, Charles Wayne Shaffett (Laurie), and niece, Rhonda Shaffett Flowers (Bruce). She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Richardson Sr. of Baton Rouge; son, Buford Richardson Jr. of Baton Rouge; grandson, Robert Zachary Richardson of Baton Rouge; brothers, Charles Shaffett and Dudley J. Shaffett (Margaret), both of Baton Rouge; and nephew, Dudley J. Shaffett, Jr. of Denham Springs. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, at 10 am until service at 11, conducted by Rev. Mia Freneaux and Rev. Richie Fike. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial park at 3 pm. The family wants to thank the House of Grace director and staff for their care of Barbara. If you wish, charitable donations can be made to Frances Asbury United Methodist Church in Barbara’s name.
