Barbara Ann Palm Vignes passed peacefully from this life at the age of 87 at 10:10 PM on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 surrounded by family and friends. Barbara was born to John, Sr. and Bridget Palm in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday, September 9, 1934. Her family moved to New Orleans when she was 13 years old where she attended Ursuline Academy and Loyola University, graduating summa cum laude in Medical Technology. Barbara married Dr. Edwin “Victor” Vignes on December 28, 1957 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage shortly before his death in 2018. The family moved to Baton Rouge after Victor’s graduation from dental school where she worked alongside him as he built his practice. Their family grew to include three children, Barbara “Bobbie”, Julie, and Victor, Jr.
Barbara was active in the Ladies’ Dental Auxiliary of Louisiana, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, the OLOM Bereavement Committee, and the Holy Name Society. She served as a volunteer at the EBR Parish Public Library, and enjoyed her friendship with the ladies in her Passé Bon Temps group. She was a dignified and loving matriarch to her entire family, and an elegant Southern lady who genuinely exemplified her faith to everyone whose lives she touched. Barbara had a lifelong appreciation for a wide variety of music, enjoyed extensive travel, was very well-read, and most of all, loved sharing time with her friends and family, particularly her grandchildren, Amelia and Jonathan. Barbara’s sense of style and refinement, as well as her quiet strength, grace, and devotion will be remembered by all who knew her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, John, Sr. and Bridget Palm, her sister, Ruthie Bacino, her niece Ruth Ann French, and her husband, Dr. E. Victor Vignes, Sr. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Johnny Palm, Jr. and Loretta Palm, her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara “Bobbie” and John Fowler, her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Julie Vignes and Dr. Sam Bridges, her son, E. Victor Vignes, Jr., and her grandchildren, Amelia and Jonathan Bridges as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to Barbara’s team of caregivers who showed her such love and compassion. Pallbearers will be Dr. Sam Bridges, John Fowler, Johnny Palm, III, Michael Palm, Blair Many, and Michael Many.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Saturday morning, October 30, 2021. Visitation will begin at 9:00, with a funeral Mass at 10:00.
