II Timothy 4:7-8, KJV. Barry Charles Scott, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and former resident of Louisville, Miss., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011. He was 66 and a native of Bournemouth, England. Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Anne Perry Scott, and their three daughters, Leanne Elizabeth Scott Oneschuk and her husband, Joseph Oneschuk Jr., of Framingham, Mass., Dr. Mary Lauren Scott, of Birmingham, Ala., and Anna Catherine Scott and her fiancé, Scott Anthony Martin, of Atlanta. He is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn Bateman, of Senatobia, Miss., and her husband, Robert, and Barbara Butler, of Louisville; his wife's brother, Thomas Perry, of Dublin, Ga., and his wife Bess; as well as by many other relatives and loved ones. Barry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Floyd Scott; his beloved paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Odeal Vernon Scott; and a sister, Sandra Henry, all of Louisville. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Joshua Perry, of Greenville, Miss. Barry attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss., and also received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson, Miss. He completed his internship and residencies at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He also completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Fla. He was Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Scott was a Fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology and held memberships in the following: East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology and American College of Physicians. He was one of the founding members of Gastroenterology Associates/Louisiana Endoscopy Center, now known as the Digestive Health Center of Louisiana, and he loved his work. Barry loved to travel, read, run, fly fish, golf, bicycle, play tennis, and to spend time with his family, friends, and pets. He completed a marathon in Houston a few months before his first stroke. He particularly enjoyed the works of William Faulkner, Will D. Campbell, and William ("Willie") Weaks Morris. He also enjoyed collecting Rieslings and port and loved good food. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and played an active role there for as long as his health allowed him to do so. He enjoyed spending time at the Manresa House of Retreats in Convent. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and a lifetime member of its alumni group. He was a member of the Caledonian Society; he was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of St. James Lodge No. 47, the Grand Lodge of Louisiana F&AM, as well as The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and The York Rite, and other related bodies. He was a member of the Baton Rouge section of the Krewe of Endymion; he and his wife were also members of The Charity Ball Association and the Karnival Krewe de Louisiane. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, Dec. 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Masonic service. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following: The Barry C. Scott, M.D. Research Endowment Fund at the University of Florida, which was established in his honor in 2001 by the Digestive Health Foundation of Louisiana to support research in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in the College of Medicine, First United Methodist Church, or the American Stroke Association, a part of the American Heart Assocation. The family wishes to thank all of his caregivers in recent years, including Hospice of Baton Rouge, as well as all family and friends.
