
A longtime resident of Baton Rouge and native of Crowley, Beatrice Lydia Landry "Peggy" Sartain, born on Sept. 9, 1920, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family Sunday, July 3, 2011. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Wilfred Sartain and Erica, of Dallas, and their two children, Philip deLesseps Sartain and Katherine Knapheide Sartain; daughter, Manette Sartain Sammons, of Baton Rouge, and her sons, Benjamin Samuel Agnew, Bryson Sartain Agnew and Drayton Daboval Agnew; son and daughter-in-law, David Elwood Sartain and Lynden, of Houston, and their children, Aubrey Clayton Sartain, Travis David Sartain and Wilson Landry Sartain; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Sartain Berlin and Allen, of Tomball, Texas, and their sons, Stuart Edward Berlin, Taylor Landry Berlin and Brett Sartain Berlin; and son and daughter-in-law, Dennis James Sartain and Charla, of Baton Rouge, and their children, Ellis Joseph Sartain and Brady William Sartain. She is also survived by a brother, J.W. "Boysie" Landry Jr., of Crowley; sister, Louise Landry Morrow, of Crowley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wilfred Landry Sr. and Beatrice Lydia "Budzie" Daboval Landry, who were of Crowley; husband, Joseph Elwood Sartain, who was of Baton Rouge; brother, Francis "Noot" Landry, who was of Houston; and son-in-law, Leslie Langham Sammons, who was of Baton Rouge. She was a longtime parishioner St. George Catholic Church and took a special joy in her church and her faith. To her family, friends and church she will be remembered for her great character and gentle resolve - a true lady in every sense of the word. She was faithful, loving, kind, never straying from her highly developed sense of right and wrong and steadfast purpose, a loving wife and mother who gave her love and devotion to her husband and their children and grandchildren. To her children's spouses she was a delight and a joy. The family will receive visitors at St. George Catholic Church on Thursday, July 7, from 11 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Michael J. Schatzle, celebrant. Interment in the Sartain family plot at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., in charge of arrangements.
