Occasionally, even God issues a recall on His Angels. On March 23, 2014 He recalled Bettie Sue Lambert to install Updates. Bettie Sue was loved by so many because she loved so many, unconditionally. Her presence on this earth will be sorely missed by all. We will celebrate her life with Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home 4:30-7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. A Celebratory Mass will be offered 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 27th at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, BRLA.
Bettie Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles A. Lambert and her daughter Charmaine and Granddaughter Beth Lacy. Bettie Sue is survived by her two sons, Sidney J. Lacy, III and Tim Lacy. Stepchildren also surviving are Pam, Jerry, Mark, Barbara and Charles, Lambert, Jr. and their children Jennifer, Nikki, Adam, Jaci, Jessie, Stephen and Sarah (Already an Angel). Grandchildren who loved her dearly include John C. and Katie Lacy, Josh and Malaika Lacy. Great-grandchildren include Noah, McKenna and Manning Lacy, who also brought Bettie great joy. Bettie Sue was preceded in death by her brothers Bubba Ruiz, Buddy Bueto and sisters June Theriot, Bobbie McCullough and Jackie Bueto. Bettie is survived by brothers and sisters Billy Bueto, Jerri Morel, Ouida Gautreaux and Theresa Smith
In lieu of flowers, this loving woman would have preferred donation to her favorite charities, BR Food Bank and VOA.
BETTIE SUE RUIZ LAMBERT EULOGY - by Tim Lacy – March 27, 2014
Born July 13, 1927 – Died March 23, 2014
Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans… (I hope to get through this without tearing up too much – it may become what we often refer to as a “Liquid Homily.”)
As I look out over this congregation and the many visitors at Mom’s Memorial Service last night…. Our Family is overwhelmed at the vast number of lives that Bettie Sue Lambert has touched and affected in 87 years on this earth.
Bettie Sue, Sue, Mama Sue, Mom, Aunt Sue, Grandma….so many names for all those who reached out for her…
Born in 1927 into what became a family of ten brothers and sisters and being one of the elders, Bettie Sue was charged with being caretaker for the younger seven. I believe this is where she first developed her “loving” gifts of listening and of understanding exactly who she was dealing with; however, Mom’s most precious gift came from God – “Angelic Love” – This is “Unconditional Love” past the point of hopelessness. She applied this to all she met on her life’s journey.
I thank her for never giving up – on me, my brother, or my sister Charmaine…May she rest in peace. I need to include the five Lambert children who became her “New Children” when she married Charles Lambert, Sr. Mom never gave up on them either. The marriage to Chuck was definitely made in Heaven. For more than 20 years, they were inseparable – joined at the hip, not afraid to venture into new horizons.
They spend five of their wonderful retirement years in Chapala, Mexico. As a tribute to their deep religious faith and charity, Chuck and Mom would collect used wheel chairs and ferry them back on their return trips to Chapala. They also sponsored school tuition for many children in the village whose parents could not afford to pay.
As Chuck’s health began to wane, they relocated to Covington, LA, where Chuck passed away in January, 1999. Expressing a need to be closer to her family, Mom returned to Baton Rouge, where we became roommates in 2000… (We laughingly referred to this as “Womb-mates”) In the last 14 years, I came to know and love her more than just Mom – we became great friends as well.
Mama Sue gave up night driving two years ago, which limited her social life – so we began a Friday night ritual of meeting with Sit and Anne Wong at Churchill’s at 5 p.m. for a “highball,” then off to dinner and home by 8:00 PM!
We can never thank enough: Generation Hospice, the vigilantes who shared bedside duty, day and night – Billy & Jackie Bueto, Pam, Mark, Barbara, and Jessie Lambert, Sandra Smith, Anne Wong, Ms. Bea, and my children, Josh and Malaika.
Thank the owners, staff and patrons at Churchill’s for always making Mama Sue welcome and special.
Thanks to Deacon Brent Duplessis, who delivered communion to Mom at the Hospital – and to Father Gerald Martin, who administered the Sacrament of Last Rites on the eve of Mom’s passing.
Finally, to Father Donald Blanchard, who has been our Pastor at St. Jean Vianney and later at Sacred Heart Church: Father Blanchard, Thank you for your friendship over these last 50+ years, for all you tried to teach us and for ministering to me and my family in our times of need.
In closing, I would like to read “Jeremiah’s Prayer”, written by Marc Broussard of Carencro, LA:
JEREMIAH’S PRAYER
Why did it have to end so soon, why did you go away?
Although I know it may never come true, I hope to see you someday
And I’ll always remember, those times that we shared
So if you’re listening from up above, this is my prayer
You brought so much joy to this world of mine
Whenever I needed, you came
A friend like you is so hard to find
Without you it won’t be the same
And though many will try, no one can ever compare
So if you’re listening from up above, this is my prayer:
May the mountains rise to meet you
May the skies open wide
Know that in my heart, my friend
You will always be alive
May the angels fly to greet you
You can see it all from up there
I know you’re listening from up above
Cause this is, and will always be my prayer.
