

Betty Lloyd Leeper Ellis was born on December 4, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and passed away peacefully at St. James Place on December 16, 2014 at the age of 87. When she left us, she was holding the hands of her family. She is survived by her son Jim Ellis and wife, Becky, of Baton Rouge, daughters Carol E. McCraw and husband, John, of Houston, Texas, and daughter, Ann J. Ellis, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren Rebecca Lloyd Ellis of Baton Rouge, James A. Ellis and wife, Mary Emrey, of Houston, Texas; Paul L. Ellis and wife, Meredith, of Baton Rouge; William H. McCraw of Houston, Texas, and Caroline M. Lesem and husband, Ben, of Austin, Texas; great-grandchildren Emily and Mark Lesem of Austin, Texas; Eleanor and Thomas Ellis of Baton Rouge, and West Ellis of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Almont Ellis, and her parents, Lloyd and Vasthli Leeper. Betty Lloyd graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport and attended the University of Arkansas where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge, La Lecture Book Club, Rebels Dance Club, and Revellers Dance Club. She was an active and dedicated member of Circle 6 and First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge. Whether it was her time spent living in Shreveport, Bayou Lafourche, Houston, or Baton Rouge, she was blessed throughout her life to have wonderful and loving friends who she stayed in touch with and cherished to the very end of her life. She loved her family and took great delight in her grandchildren and her expanding list of great-grandchildren. She loved her Northeast Texas farm which she and her husband Al nurtured and passed along to her children and grandchildren, where they now gather, work, celebrate, and for which they will forever be thankful. We will miss her, but her legacy will be with each one of us every day as we go through life. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014, immediately followed by services at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge, 763 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA. Pallbearers will be James A. Ellis, Paul L. Ellis, William H. McCraw, Ben Lesem, Robert Stewart, and Martin Walke.
