Betty grew up in Charles City, Virginia. She attended Charles City High School where she excelled in leadership roles and sports. She then worked for a local company as a secretary. She met Lee Jacob whom she married on September 1, 1953. Lee was enlisted in the Army and they spent most of their married lives transferred around the country in many states, as well as stationed in Germany twice. She was a homemaker and raised 6 children until the youngest started school. She then returned to work in the retail clothing business. She worked until she retired .
After her husband died in 2007, she sold or gave away most of her belongings and decided to move in with her sister Shirley and husband. She used their residence as her home base while she spent most of her time traveling for extended visits with her children. She dearly loved all of her children, grandchildren, siblings, and many nieces and nephews. If you had a phone conversation with her she would always end it by saying, "I love you, miss you, and give everyone a big hug from me!"
Betty loved books and reading was one of her favorite passions. During her last years when she was unable to venture out much, her daughters and sister Shirley would mail her books. She would read them so quickly, it was sometimes difficult to keep her supplied. She loved historical fiction and novels with happy endings! She spent most of her life taking care of others and we know she is now with her Lord, dancing in heaven with those she loved who have gone before her. She will be dearly missed by those who love her, and she will remain in our hearts forever. Have fun mom, "see you on the other side!"
The family plans to have a private memorial grave side service later this spring. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Fort Smith National Cemetery located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
