Brandt is survived by his daughter, Amy Gattle, and son-in-law, Gabe; his daughter, Ashley Yoes, and son-in-law Brandon; and his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Taylor. He was a proud grandfather to Grant, Evie, Charlotte, Micah, Caleb, Nathan, and Hudson Brandt coming soon. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Louise, Susan, and Ann, and his brother, Jamie Hardy. He is preceded in death by his father, William Robyn Hardy, Jr. MD, and mother, Irma Brodi Hardy.
Brandt attended Louisiana State University, where he completed his undergraduate studies and became a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He later attended the International School of Theology in San Bernardino, California, where he earned a master's degree in counseling. For 43 years, he dedicated his professional life to mental health counseling. His work reflected the heart of who he was: someone who cared deeply about people and valued the opportunity to make a difference in their lives.
Outside of his work, Brandt found great joy in the friendships and communities he built throughout his life. He was actively involved in the Baton Rouge Ancient Athlete Society serving as President from 1999-2000. His passion for dogs and hunting also led to extensive involvement in the VDD-GNA, where he was chairman from 2016-2024. He was also chairman of Big Rivers for 20 years.
Above all else, Brandt's greatest joy and proudest role in life was being a dad and Papa Bear. He loved showing up—to every sporting event, every event, encouraging, and cheering on his children and grandchildren. He treasured his children's and grandchildren's games, their accomplishments, their personalities, and the everyday moments that made being their dad and grandfather so special.
Brandt will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence cannot be replaced, but the love he gave, the memories he created, and the example he set will remain with his family and friends always.
A funeral service celebrating Brandt's life will be held Friday, November 6th 2026 at Grace Life Fellowship Church; 10210 Barringer Foreman Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Public visitation begins at Noon and services will commence at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to BRAAS Strong (braas.org) or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PancreaticCancer.org), in honor of Brandt's life and legacy.
