Brendan Michael King, born May 18, 1982, in Metairie, Louisiana, passed away on August 29, 2026, at the age of 44. He made his home in Gonzales, Louisiana, surrounded by the people he loved, friends who became family, and a neighborhood that will undoubtedly be a little quieter without him.
Brendan was one of a kind, unapologetically himself, fiercely loyal, quick-witted, and almost always intentionally irritating someone he loved just to get a reaction. He always had a comeback ready and could make just about anyone laugh. Brendan accepted people as they were and had a way of making everyone feel comfortable doing the same.
A mechanic by trade and skilled machinist with Emerson in Gonzales, Brendan could fix or build just about anything and usually had a project or three going at once. His interests were always evolving, from video games and model airplanes to playing guitar, working around the house, and most recently, his Harley-Davidson.
At the center of Brendan’s life was his father and best friend, Leo “John” King Jr. Their extraordinary bond shaped Brendan and the way he loved others. They shared a belief that family was built not only by blood, but through love, loyalty, and choosing to show up for one another. Brendan carried that belief into the family he built with his beloved girlfriend; Brooke Motichek and her son Emerson. Their family may not have been traditional, but it never needed to be.
Brendan was preceded in death by his beloved father and best friend, Leo “John” King Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Gina Champagne; his 2 sisters; Angelique Edwards Sims and Francesca Edwards Savage. Brendan was the uncle to Chandler and Analiese Sims and Addison Tollefson along with many friends, neighbors, coworkers, and chosen family who loved him.
Brendan will be remembered for his humor, curiosity, loyalty, and ability to make the people around him smile but most of all, for being completely and unmistakably Brendan.
A Celebration of life will be held at Greenoaks Memorial Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
