Brewster Conrad Gurney Rogers, age 81, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Brewster was born in Baton Rouge and later moved to Beaumont, Texas where she attended grade school and high school. She was a graduate of Stephens College and also attended LSU. Her love of theater and gift for teaching led her to a lengthy teaching career in the Houston area where she was an inspiration to countless middle school students. Her dramatic fl air shined especially to and for those she directed numerous plays with. After retirement she remained active in Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. She was also active in other activities and clubs including the DAR and Colonial Dames. Brewster is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Earl Rogers, her parents, Alida Conrad Gurney and William Brewster Gurney, her sister, Alida Gurney Sussky and her aunt, Marie Conrad. She is survived by her nieces Connie Sussky Chetta, Ree Sussky Musso and nephew Mantz Clinton Sussky. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephews, whose high school graduations she travelled to attend, including Rachel Chetta Whitley, James Chetta, Jonathan Chetta, Grace Chetta Acevedo, Leslie Musso Mize, Melissa Musso Alford, Camille Musso Fish, Charlie Musso, Clint Sussky and Hunter Sussky. She also has many loving and caring friends in Houston that she kept up with and they her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Brewster’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. A memorial will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056 on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 2 pm. Interment of the ashes will be held in The Church's Urn Garden of the Holy Cross at 1:00 pm and the Memorial Service will be held in The Church at 2 pm with a reception immediately following in the Bagby Parish Hall.
