
A brother of the Sacred Heart, he passed away at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at the Brothers' home in Baton Rouge. He was 79. Preceded in death by his parents, Dudley J. Couvillon Sr., of Moreauville, and Lucille Jeanne Landry, of Lockport; and a brother, Thomas Couvillon. He is survived by six brothers, Brother Louis Couvillon, S.C., Harold, James, David, John and Lawrence Couvillon; and three sisters, Maybelle Navarre, Margaret Ann Bell and Carole Ackman; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Brother Elliot entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in 1945. From 1948 to 1958 he taught in various schools in New York. In July of 1958 his assignment took him to Uganda, where he taught for 30 years. He returned to Baton Rouge in 1989 and in 1990 began his tenure at St. Paul's Adult Learning Center until his death. Relatives, friends and former students are invited to attend the wake and funeral services at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 3912 Gus Young Ave., on Monday, Nov. 10. The wake will be from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment in the Brothers' Cemetery, Bay St. Louis, Miss., at 4:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation, 4600 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122 or to St. Paul's Adult Learning Center, 3920 Gus Young Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
