Buddy C. Johnson (Bob Johnson), former well-known news anchor for WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge, who was brutally beaten on North Boulevard during a riot in 1972, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, of natural causes at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge. He was 77 and lived with permanent brain damage since the beating. Bob was a native of Beaumont, Texas, a resident of Baton Rouge since 1964, and at The Care Center nursing home in Baton Rouge for the past 23 years. Bob was a well-liked man who loved life and all that it had to offer. Even after his life was so drastically altered, he always seemed to make the best of it. The strongest man we've ever known will be remembered and missed immensely by his family, his loyal and devoted wife of 57 years, Audrey Johnson, three sons, Luc Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Marcus Johnson and wife Mary; two daughters, Leah Weber and husband Dan, and Lori Gray; and three grandchildren, Emily Gray, Danielle Weber and Landon Weber. Bob was preceded in death by his loving parents, Harry Johnson and Marie Johnson; and two brothers who died in childhood, Marvin Johnson and Eugene Johnson. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 3, at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until Mass at noon, with a dear family friend, the Rev. Donald Blanchard, celebrant. Pallbearers will be Dan Weber, Landon Weber, Bradley Bailey, Bill Peltier, Joseph Bonfanti and Kirk Martin. Bob's family would like to personally thank the community for their continuous concern and sincere thoughts and prayers for so many years. Also, a heartfelt thank you goes to the staff at The Care Center for lovingly taking care of Bob. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. >
