Carl Henry "Brother" Miller, Jr., possessed of a true Servant's Heart, passed away early Saturday morning, July 13, 2013, at the age of 89. He was born in Baton Rouge on November 3, 1923, to Carl Henry Miller Sr. and Orelda Hebert Miller, and was the brother of Beverly and Shelby. He served in the United States Navy as a mechanic, and was a race car driver. Carl was recognized by Exxon for a number of achievements and certifications, and was also sponsored by Exxon for motor racing. While in the Navy in Puerto Rico, he crash landed a plane he was testing into a field, unable to land on the runway, killing a cow in the process, for which a local rancher had him arrested and jailed. He was once stopped by the Baton Rouge Police Department for driving his plane down Florida Boulevard. He was issued a citation because his "vehicle" didn't have an inspection sticker! He later served as a deputy for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and Air Squadron Division, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Carl was the owner and operator of Miller's Exxon, and, later in his career, he became the pilot for Kevin Reilly, Sr. at Lamar Advertising. He enjoyed welding, flying, boating, deep sea fishing, and working on anything mechanical. He loved helping people and was sometimes frustrated that he couldn't be in two places at the same time. He was kind and considerate to a fault. Carl is survived by his 2 children: Mitzi Miller Bates and her husband Bradley of Baton Rouge, and Jack Miller of Dallas. He is also survived by four nieces: Anne Sue Marty, and Vickie; three nephews: Jim, John, and David; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Miller (from Shreveport); his second wife, Mary Miller (from Maggie Valley, North Carolina; and his third wife, Elise Whitaker Fourrier, who died December 1, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Miller Baudier; and brother, Shelby Miller. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St, on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from 12pm until funeral service at 3pm, conducted by Rev. Brad Franklin. Entombment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum. Serving as Pallbearers will be Andrew Lively, Kevin P. Reilly, Jr., Sam Little, Paul Soulier, and Wayne Rogilio. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hypolite Landry, Maurice Whitcomb, Charles Runnells, and Jack Rome. Special thanks to Rose Thompson, the staff at Clarity Hospice, and the staff at Colonial Care Retirement Center.
