

Carl William Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, unwavering faith, and devotion to his family. Born on March 18, 1941, Carl dedicated 36 years of service to Exxon before retiring. Following his retirement, he spent 15 years as a charter captain, where he shared his love of the water with countless family members, friends, and guests. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church and lived his life guided by his Christian faith.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Fritz Smith; his mother, Juanita Atwood Smith; and his brother, Jimmy Smith.
Carl survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sandra Himel Smith, whose love and partnership were the foundation of their family. He also leaves behind six daughters: Renee Edwards; Michelle Braud and her husband, Joseph Braud; Carla Smith; Vicky Redd and her husband, Glen Redd; Rhonda Redd and her husband, Shane Redd; and Laurie Lormand.
Carl is also survived by his brothers, David Smith, Wayne Smith, Douglas Smith, Doyle Smith, and Steven Smith.
His greatest joy was his family. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren: Justin, Alyssa, Kristen, Jacob, Blake, Danielle, William, Spencer, Taylor, Meagan, Kayleigh, and Dawson. He was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense happiness.
Carl will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast work ethic, love for the outdoors, and the deep love he had for his family. Whether he was working, fishing, spending time on the water, or enjoying gatherings with those he loved, he made lasting memories that will be treasured for generations.
His family finds comfort in knowing that his faith carried him home, and they will forever cherish the love, wisdom, and example he leaves behind.
Pallbearers will be Blake, Dawson, Spencer, Taylor, William, Jacob, Justin, and Steve.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral service on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM. at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. 70815. Visitation will begin on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again Thursday morning from 12:00 PM until service time. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
