
Funeral services for Carlisle Sheard Richard, 87, of Baton Rouge, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at St. James Episcopal Church. Interment will be held in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Friday, Oct. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Visitation in the chapel of St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. until service time. Mr. Richard was born July 8, 1924, in Baton Rouge, and spent his early childhood in Donaldsonville. He died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as district administrator after 30 years. Recipient of the Charles E. Dunbar Jr. Career Civil Service Award. Along with his career as a civil engineer, he was a senior pilot with the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Richard's many activities included service with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, including his being awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award, and he served as president of the Baton Rouge Model Aces. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church for more than 70 years, where he was a lay Eucharistic minister and a Stephen Minister. He was also a member of the St. James Masonic Lodge, F&AM and the American Legion. Mr. Richard was a veteran of World War II having been discharged in 1946 with the rank of staff sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Lindsay Richard; and a son Runyon C. Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Alice Richard; his first wife, Patricia Meeks Richard; and a grandson, Jesse J. Richard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to your favorite charity.
