

Carroll Joseph Gibson, born November 10, 1937, in New Iberia, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 87. He was surrounded by his loving family. Carroll was the devoted husband of Sophie Ann Cassidy, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised five children: Julia Ann Gibson Harwell (widow of Mark), Carl Cassidy Gibson (Theresa), Ghislaine Marie Gibson Christiansen (Tim), and John Aswell Gibson (Barbara). He was preceded in death by his eldest son, William "Bill" Joseph Gibson. Carroll was also predeceased by his parents, Mary Agnes Deshotels Gibson and Aswell Antoine Gibson, as well as his sister, Mary Margaret Gibson Jeanmard. His legacy continues through his children, 11 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all whose lives he touched. A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, Carroll enjoyed a distinguished career as a chemical engineer with Kaiser Aluminum Corporation for 35 years. Beyond his professional achievements, he was deeply committed to his community. For an impressive 46 years, he officiated high school football games, reflecting his passion for sports and dedication to youth development. Additionally, he served as treasurer for DePaul Association (now Brighton Academy) for ten years, supporting its mission to assist individuals with dyslexia and attention deficit disorders. Carroll’s life was rooted in faith and service. A devout Catholic and member of St. Aloysius Parish, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Member for more than 20 years. He actively participated in fundraising efforts for the church and those in need, always willing to share his time and talents. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church located at 11441 Goodwood Boulevard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A rosary will follow at 10:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Claiborne at Baton Rouge and The Hospice of Baton Rouge.
